Prudent Accountants

Led the complete redesign, rebuild, and launch of prudentaccountants.com for Prudent Accountants, a full-service accounting firm with offices in Minneapolis and Dallas that supports small businesses across bookkeeping, tax advisory, payroll and HR, and fractional CFO services.

The site Prudent had wasn't wrong. It was just built for an earlier version of the firm than the one clients experience today.

The Challenge

Prudent's original site had grown into something no one had designed intentionally. Four core service pillars sat behind a single "Services" menu with no visual differentiation. Content lived in long lists that read like an internal capabilities matrix rather than a client-facing story. Over a thousand blog posts had accumulated without a visual system, without an editorial hub, and with mixed URL structures that were splitting SEO signal in half.

The firm also had no industry-specific paths. A restaurant owner and a nonprofit board member both landed on the same generic "how we work" page, even though what each of them needs from an accountant looks completely different.

Lead capture was a static contact form that told visitors nothing about what would happen after they submitted it. And behind the scenes, the SEO foundation (structured data, sitemap, indexing directives, canonical URLs) needed a real cleanup before the site could compete for the searches Prudent actually wanted to win.

The firm's capabilities had outgrown the site's ability to communicate them.

The Strategy

Restructured Prudent's information architecture around how clients actually make hiring decisions, not around how the firm organizes its own service lines internally.

Key strategic decisions:

  • Rebuilt the site's IA around four clearly differentiated service pillars: Accounting & Bookkeeping, Tax Advisory & Planning, Payroll & HR, and Fractional CFO Services

  • Built individual landing pages for each of the seven industries Prudent serves (real estate, restaurants, nonprofits, healthcare, therapy practices, assisted living, and professional services) so prospects land on content that speaks directly to their world

  • Positioned a single unified "Talk to an Expert" experience with a CRM-integrated intake form that pipes qualified leads directly into Zoho, replacing the passive contact form

  • Established brand pillars around modern practice, warm expertise, financial confidence, and long-term growth partnership so every page carried a consistent voice

  • Set up the SEO foundation to compete: schema.org LocalBusiness markup for both offices, sitemap architecture, robots directives, canonical strategy, plus AEO/GEO optimizations for how AI search engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews) surface professional service firms

The Creative Approach

Designed and built the entire site with a custom design system, then created an original illustration language that shows visitors what working with Prudent actually looks like day to day, rather than describing it in words.

Key creative contributions:

  • Built a complete design foundation with custom presets, tokens, and reusable patterns so the site can grow without visual drift

  • Designed a set of custom illustration cards showing real client artifacts: "Payday: Every Friday" checkmarks, quarterly filings marked complete, a chart of accounts for a restaurant, a KPI dashboard, a cash flow projection, a strategy memo, a books-closed status snapshot. These replaced generic stock photography with a visual language that makes the firm's service model tangible.

  • Custom-animated pyramid graphic showing how the four service tiers layer together for growing businesses

  • Rebuilt the blog experience as an Insights hub with a modern editorial template and cleaner post cards

  • Designed dedicated Case Studies, FAQ, and Careers pages the firm can grow into as they publish more client stories, add more common questions, and hire more team members

  • Post-launch performance and accessibility optimization pass: WebP image delivery via server-level rewriting, browser cache headers, LCP hero preload, viewport accessibility fix, and font-display strategy so text renders without blocking

Every design decision was made for the reader who is actively deciding whether to trust Prudent with their financial life.

The Results

The redesigned prudentaccountants.com launched on July 20, 2026. In the first four days after launch, comparing the equivalent four-day window immediately before, the site saw traffic and engagement shifts of a scale that typically takes months of optimization work to produce:

INCREASE IN TOTAL USERS

INCREASE IN EVENT COUNT

+489%

+71%

+246%

+175%

INCREASE IN AVERAGE ENGAGEMENT TIME

INCREASE IN RETURNING USERS

Traffic sources told the same story:

  • Direct traffic up 232% (people typing prudentaccountants.com or clicking a bookmark)

  • Organic search traffic up 69% (Google's crawler responding to the new IA and improved structured data)

  • Referrals up 300%

  • Organic social up 300%

Beyond the numbers, the site now gives Prudent something more durable than a launch bump: an information architecture built to grow with the firm, a content system that can hold everything Prudent publishes going forward, and an SEO foundation designed for both traditional and AI-driven search.

A website that's set up to grow with the firm, not one that will need to be rebuilt in two years.
